First Aid/Emergency Treatment

Nurses are available full time in all schools to provide first aid and support to students who become ill or injured during the school day. Parents will be notified if further medical care is needed, so it is important that each child's emergency card be kept up to date at all times.

Parents who will be away from home for an extended period of time are encouraged to notify the school nurse in writing of alternate emergency phone numbers and temporary guardians. It is strongly suggested that a parental authorization statement of consent for treatment should be prepared and notarized for those responsible for the student's care. A copy of this authorization should be provided for the school. Many doctors and hospitals will not treat a child with a non-life threatening emergency until parental permission has been obtained. A delay in treatment can often be painful for the child and frustrating for the adult who has responsibility for the child's care.
