Franklin Regional Web Page Publishing Guidelines 

The following guidelines are provided for staff consideration as they begin preparing individual Web pages:

 

Responsibility:

 

Ø      Individual and School web pages are the responsibility of the building principal or immediate supervisor.  Pages are subject to review for content and Web publishing guidelines.

Ø      All web pages must comply with the Franklin Regional Internet and Computer Acceptable Use Policy. See Policy 7008 Internet and Computer Usage.

Ø      No web page shall link to any inappropriate material, nor should they contain email or other personal information of students.

Ø       Web pages representing the Franklin Regional School District shall reside on the District’s web server or be clearly identified as residing on an outside Hosting Service.

o       A disclaimer such as, “The Franklin Regional School District provides links to other Internet Web sites and resources as a convenience for those who visit our site. The District does not guarantee the accuracy or appropriateness of any information, offered services or products contained in any website linked directly or indirectly to our Web Portal”, should appear on any page containing links to external pages.

Ø      Copyrighted materials, including graphics, may not be used on District Web pages without permission from the copyright holder.

Ø       Identifiable photos with student full names will not be used on public web pages. Signed parental release forms are required for any publication of student pictures, names or work (FERPA forms).

 

Web Standards:

Ø      Pages must load quickly, on and off site.  Follow the Franklin Regional Web Style Guide.

Ø      All pages must have correct spelling and grammar.

Ø      The Franklin Regional Content Management System emphasizes content over glitz. Staff is encouraged to be creative but should be aware of appropriate Web Page design considerations. See FRSD Web Style Guide.

Ø      Every effort should be made to follow accessibility guidelines for persons with disabilities. See the following resources: http://www.w3.org/WAI/Resources/ and http://www.w3.org/WAI/References/QuickTips/.

Purpose:

Ø      All pages must be curriculum or school related.

Ø      No personal student or staff homepages or links to those pages are allowed on District websites.

 

Required Information:

Ø      All pages must have copyright and school contact information.

Ø   Example: Copyright Notice: No portion of this page may be copied without permission of the Franklin Regional School District. Contact [teacher name] xteacher@franklinregional.k12.pa.us [name of] School, [school address], Murrysville, PA 15668.

Ø      Example: Copyright Notice: This material may be freely copied. Contact [teacher name] xteacher@franklinregional.k12.pa.us [name of] School, [school address], Murrysville, PA.

Ø      Credit sources for all graphics and text.

Publishing Student Work:

Ø      Parent permission is required.

Ø      Student work may remain on the school web pages after the student exits the school.

Ø      Unidentifiable photos of students may be published on school websites, illustrating student projects and achievements, with parent permission as per District Policy.  See District FERPA and Video Taping Policies.

Ø      Student work is published with parent permission as per District Policy.

 

Internet Links:

Ø      Carefully select for relevance to curriculum and appropriateness to school setting.

Ø      Include brief description of the site or its intended use.

Ø      Link to sites without advertising if possible. Note advertising with the following statement: Site contains advertising.

Ø      Remove or replace broken links and update on a regular basis.
